Lot 290: A Chinese Celadon-Glazed ‘Dragon’ Relief Lidded Vase.
A Chinese Celadon-Glazed ‘Dragon’ Relief Lidded Vase.
A ceramic vase of baluster form, rising from a short unglazed foot to a rounded body with softly fluted sides, tapering to a tall cylindrical neck and fitted with a domed cover. The lid is surmounted by a small sculpted finial in the form of a crouching mythical creature.
The exterior is covered in a soft celadon glaze of pale green tone, evenly applied across the surface. A high-relief dragon emerges dynamically from the shoulder, its sinuous body modelled in the round as it clambers across the vessel, with defined limbs, open mouth, and stylised features. The sculptural element adds depth and movement to the otherwise smooth and gently ribbed body.
H: Approximately 14.3cm
