A Chinese Famille Rose ‘Peach and Butterfly’ Gaiwan with Stand.
A porcelain gaiwan of traditional form, comprising a lidded bowl and matching saucer, decorated in famille rose enamels. The bowl is gently flared, rising from a short foot, with a domed cover surmounted by a small knop. The interior of the lid and base reveals a turquoise-glazed ground, with an underglaze blue seal mark to the base.
The exterior is finely painted with large ripe peaches borne on leafy branches, interspersed with blossoming flowers and delicate butterflies in flight. The decoration continues harmoniously onto the cover and the saucer, creating a cohesive and lively composition. The palette features soft pinks, greens, yellows, and purples, outlined with fine detailing.
Both the rim of the bowl and saucer, as well as the edge of the cover, are finished with a narrow gilt band, adding a refined contrast to the white ground.
