A Large Indian Painting Of A Mahout Battling A Tiger Upon An Elephant, 19th- 20th Century.
The composition depicts a dynamic scene of a mahout seated upon an elephant engaged in combat with a tiger. The elephant strides forward across a gently sloping ground, its body rendered in soft grey tones and adorned with a patterned saddle cloth in green and red.
The mahout, shown in profile, raises a long spear above his head, poised to strike as the tiger lunges upward, its forepaws gripping the elephant’s flank. The tiger is depicted with striped detailing and an arched posture, creating a sense of tension and movement within the scene.
