Lot 107: A Tibetan Gilt-Bronze Ritual Mask with Scrolling Ornament.
A Tibetan Gilt-Bronze Ritual Mask with Scrolling Ornament.
A Tibetan gilt-bronze ritual mask of stylised facial form, featuring large openwork eyes, a pronounced nose, and a wide open mouth.
The surface is richly decorated with dense scrolling motifs in relief, framing the facial features and extending across the forehead and cheeks. A central raised element sits above the brow, flanked by symmetrical ornament. The sides are formed with prominent ear-like projections, each pierced for attachment.
The reverse reveals the hollow construction, with a darker tone contrasting the gilt front, and showing the underlying structure of the relief work. The edges are bordered with a continuous raised rim, defining the overall form.
