A Fatimid Carved Jet Chess Piece, Probably 10th–12th Century.
A carved jet chess piece of domed cylindrical form, the surface deeply incised with bold, stylised facial features to the front, including large spiral eyes and a linear beard rendered in rhythmic, curved strokes. The reverse is decorated with dense geometric and abstract motifs, arranged in intersecting bands and scroll-like forms, creating a highly textured surface.
