A Qajar Brass Kashkul with Figural and Calligraphic Decoration.
Of characteristic boat-shaped form, the brass kashkul is finely engraved across the exterior with dense ornamental decoration. A broad register of flowing Arabic calligraphy encircles the body, bordered by narrow geometric bands. Below, the surface is divided into repeated almond-shaped cartouches, each enclosing stylised figural and animal motifs set amid scrolling vegetal ornament.
