A Chinese Famille Verte ‘Phoenix and Floral’ Bowl, Chenghua Mark.
A finely potted porcelain bowl of rounded form, rising from a short straight foot to a gently flared rim. The exterior is vividly decorated in famille verte enamels with a striding phoenix amongst scrolling foliage and stylised blossoms, rendered in tones of green, iron-red, yellow, and underglaze blue. The composition is animated with curling tendrils and cloud-like motifs, creating a continuous and lively decorative scheme.
The interior is plain, centred with a medallion enclosing a pair of phoenix amid floral sprays, echoing the exterior decoration. The rim is bordered with double blue lines, framing the piece.
The base bears a six-character underglaze blue mark reading “Da Ming Chenghua Nian Zhi” (大明成化年製) within double circles.
