A Chinese Carved Agate Mythical Beast Statue, Possibly 1st Century BC.
A carved agate sculpture depicting a stylised mythical creature group, the composition formed with a central horned beast flanked symmetrically by curling tail forms and compact animal bodies beneath.
The central figure features a mask-like face with incised linear detailing, including almond-shaped eyes, a defined nose ridge, and a pointed chin element. Two small horn-like protrusions rise from the head, adding to its stylised and archaic appearance.
Extending from either side are pronounced, curling tail forms that sweep upward in a balanced, mirrored arrangement. The body below is composed of rounded, crouching animal forms with simplified legs and paws, creating a compact and sculptural base.
