A Chinese Bronze Mythical Beast-Form Weight or Architectural Ornament.
A cast bronze figure modelled as a stylised mythical beast, shown seated firmly atop a rectangular plinth. The creature is depicted with an open mouth exposing teeth, a raised snout, and small horn-like protrusions to the head. Its body is rounded and powerful, with pronounced legs and clawed feet positioned on circular bosses across the base.
The surface is decorated with incised and relief motifs, including scrolling patterns along the shoulders and flanks, and stylised detailing across the neck and head. The back features a ridged, fin-like element extending upward, adding to the sculptural silhouette.
The rectangular base is ornamented with openwork-style carving to the sides and relief roundels, alongside Chinese characters engraved along the front face. The underside is flat with a central drilled aperture, suggesting it may have been mounted or used as part of a larger structure.
