A Continental Silver Egg-Form Religious Relief Sculpture, Marked 995 Standard.
An egg-shaped silver sculpture, raised on a small four-footed base, the surface richly worked in high relief across both sides. One face depicts a dynamic scene of a bearded figure within a swirling celestial setting, surrounded by animals including deer, lions, birds, and other creatures arranged in a dense natural landscape above stylised waves.
The reverse presents a detailed religious composition centred on the Virgin and Child, encircled by haloed figures, angels, and attendants within a layered architectural and celestial setting. The entire surface is intricately textured with finely chased detailing.
A central band encircles the body, engraved with an inscription in Greek reading “ΤΑ ΠΑΝΤΑ ΕΝ ΣΟΦΙΑ ΕΠΟΙΗΣΑΣ, ” and further decorated with small animal and foliate motifs. The base is stamped “Ag 995,” indicating a high silver purity.
