A Chinese Gilt-Bronze Zoomorphic Censor in the Form of a Mythical Beast.
A Chinese gilt-bronze vessel cast in the form of a recumbent mythical beast, supported on four legs with its head extended forward.
The body is of rounded form, surmounted by a small domed lid with a loop finial. The creature’s head is finely detailed with pronounced eyes, flared nostrils, and flowing stylised mane, holding a small cup-form vessel in its mouth. Wing-like motifs are applied to the shoulders, and a short tail extends to the rear.
