Lot 198: A Chinese Jade Carving of a Stylised Dragon...
A Chinese Jade Carving of a Stylised Dragon with Recumbent Figure.
The carving is of elongated form, worked as a sinuous dragon with an arched body extending horizontally. The head is raised at one end with an open mouth, curling mane, and defined facial features, while the tail tapers at the opposite end with a curled tip.
Along the back of the creature lies a smaller recumbent figure, its limbs draped over the body, accompanied by scrolling cloud-like forms that flow across the surface. The composition is raised upon a small circular foot beneath the centre, giving the piece a slightly elevated stance.
L: Approximately 20.8cm
