Lot 190: A Chinese Archaistic Jade Phallic Pendant with Beast...
A Chinese Archaistic Jade Phallic Pendant with Beast Head, Possibly Han Dynasty or Later.
Carved from mottled green and brown jade, the pendant is modelled in the form of an erect phallus surmounted at the base by the head of a mythical beast with pointed ears, bulging eyes, and an open mouth pierced through for suspension. The combination of the phallic form with a beast’s head suggests a symbolic or ritualistic purpose, possibly linked to fertility or protective functions.
