A Large Tibetan Iron Figure of Garuda Subduing a Naga, with Gilt and Stone Inlay.

A striking Tibetan iron figure depicting Garuda, the mythological bird deity, shown standing in a powerful stance upon a subdued serpent-like naga figure raised on a circular lotus base. The figure is rendered with a human torso and avian features, including a beaked face, outstretched wings, and taloned feet.

Garuda is shown with arms extended, grasping a sinuous serpent held across the body, its form curving dynamically from hand to hand. The face is detailed with pronounced eyes and a prominent beak, surmounted by a flaming crest. The wings are finely worked with layered feather detailing extending outward from the shoulders.

The torso is adorned with applied decorative elements, including inset cabochons in red and turquoise tones arranged across the chest and waist. Gilt metal elements flank the figure at the sides in the form of stylised flame-like motifs, providing contrast against the darker surface.
