Lot 100: A Tibetan Silver Ewer with Zoomorphic Spout and...
A Tibetan Silver Ewer with Zoomorphic Spout and Handle.
The ewer is finely cast in silver with a globular lower body rising to a tall, tapering neck surmounted by a domed, lidded finial. The surface is richly decorated throughout with dense scrolling foliate motifs and stylised floral patterns arranged in registers.
The elongated spout is formed as a scaled mythical creature terminating in a stylised head, while the opposing handle is modelled as a sinuous bird or serpent with detailed plumage and a curved profile. The lid is crowned with a lotus-bud finial and bordered by bands of repeating ornament. The base is raised on a stepped circular foot with further engraved decoration, completing the balanced and highly ornate composition.
