An Indian Bronze Peacock-Form Censer, 19th Century or Later.
The bronze cast in the form of a stylised peacock, the elongated neck rising to a finely modelled head with pronounced eyes and a crested crown. The body forming a hinged censer chamber, pierced with small circular apertures, the upper section lifting to reveal the interior compartment.
The wings spread outward and engraved with feather-like detailing, while the tail is formed as an openwork fan of upright elements, radiating behind the figure. The bird stands upon a circular pedestal base, supported by an arched handle extending outward, allowing for ease of carrying.
