Lot 2: A Sassanian Silver Coin Ring, Possibly Circa 3rd–7th...
A Sassanian Silver Coin Ring, Possibly Circa 3rd–7th Century AD.
The ring is formed in silver with a prominent oval bezel set with a mounted Sassanian coin dating to approximately the 3rd–7th century AD. The surface of the coin shows worn yet visible relief, with traces of a crowned bust and surrounding elements characteristic of Sassanian numismatic design, enclosed within a smooth silver mount.
The setting is later in date, with a substantial, tapering body that gives the ring a bold and sculptural appearance. The shoulders are decorated with incised bands and repeating motifs, including linear and dotted patterns that wrap around the form.
