Shipping Policy
Last updated: April 2026
1. Collection
Lots can be collected from the auction room after sale. Collections take place by appointment, Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 – 17:00. Please email sales@grandauctionhouse.com to confirm a collection slot once your invoice is settled.
2. Shipping Arrangements
Grand Auction House does not ship items directly. Buyers must arrange their own shipper or use our recommended partner:
- JGM Shipping — domestic and international fine-art shippers.
- MBE Maida Vale — partner for VAT removal on exports.
You are free to instruct any qualified carrier; please ensure they liaise with us in advance to arrange access and packing.
3. Costs
All shipping, packaging, insurance, and customs costs are the buyer’s responsibility. Quotes vary by lot size, destination, and carrier — please obtain a quote in writing before booking.
4. Insurance
Grand Auction House does not provide shipping insurance. Buyers may request that GAH arrange insurance, at the buyer’s expense, prior to collection or dispatch.
5. International Shipping
Export licences may be required for cultural goods. It is the buyer’s responsibility to obtain any RICA / cultural-export licences required by HM Government or the destination country. Items containing CITES-protected materials (ivory, tortoiseshell, certain woods) cannot be exported without separate permits.
6. Storage After Sale
The first 10 days of storage after sale are free of charge. Thereafter the following daily rates apply:
- Smalls: £15 per day
- Furniture / large lots: £20 per day
7. Liability
Grand Auction House accepts no responsibility for loss or damage after the fall of the hammer, or once the lot has been transferred to a courier or third-party shipper.
8. VAT on Exports
Trade buyers outside the UK who arrange their own shipping may reclaim VAT, provided that export from the UK within 90 days is properly evidenced. An administration fee of £135 per invoice applies to processing VAT export refunds. Speak to us before the auction if you wish to use this scheme.
